Model Railroad Newsletter | March, 2012 |
Welcome to the March issue of the SMARTT Newsletter. As March marches in, we’re all about scenery on the shop floor. Rocky cliffs, grassy hills, and delicate streams take shape on our O and HO projects. Meanwhile SMARTT did its part for Fashion Week New York as only we can. Volcanoes and trains don’t mix, or do they? Read on below. Sincerely, Raymond Potter |

SMARTT News SMARTT helps Marc Jacobs ring in Fashion Week with its “Volcano Train”
Scale Models, Arts, and Technologies, Inc is pleased to announce an exciting and completely unique display attraction created for Marc Jacobs International.
Always a trend setting enterprise in the fashion world, Marc Jacobs again raises the bar with this imaginative show stopper. The eye-catching tropical island display with a train was produced by SMARTT at the request of Marc Jacobs for display in their Greenwich Village store just in time for New York Fashion Week 2012.
With every fashion outlet striving to draw attention away from the competition, Marc Jacobs needed something different to capture the imagination of curious shoppers. To make it happen, the company turned to SMARTT.
SMARTT was faced with the challenge of integrating a modern operating train and a volcanic peak into a single centerpiece display. The entire display had to be completely cordless, running off rechargeable batteries only. With only a week to go from a concept sketch to ready-to-ship display, SMARTT rose to the challenge.
The 4 x 4 ft diorama features a viaduct bridge for the train to cross and a beach populated by happy vacationers surrounded by tropical blue waters. Glowing lava and (safe) model railroad smoke emanate from atop the volcano. This attention getting display (photo below) even features locations on all sides where Marc Jacobs accessory items can sit and share the spotlight.
Marc Jacobs’ Visual Coordinator calls the result “Stunning!”
